Abstract. The features of the formation of public spaces in the cities of the Far North, where harsh climatic conditions, polar night and territorial isolation require innovative architectural solutions, are considered. The key trends and patterns of designing such spaces are given, taking into account natural, urban planning and social factors. Special attention is paid to the typology of closed multifunctional complexes that ensure the comfort and safety of users. Examples of implemented and projected facilities are analyzed, including the Yamal Cultural and business center, a student complex in Norilsk, and a multifunctional boardwalk in Novy Urengoy. These projects demonstrate the integration of recreational, sports, cultural and commercial functions into a single space adapted to extreme conditions. The need to develop new architectural and planning solutions capable of replacing traditional open public areas in northern cities is emphasized.
