Abstract. The scope of application of various waterproofing materials (including polymer membranes) for buildings and structures in various regions of the Russian Federation is considered. The problems of the diffusion processes of various gases through polymer waterproofing materials have been assessed. The main physico-chemical properties of polymer waterproofing membranes are presented, due to which they are successfully used in complex facilities. The methane permeability through PVC membranes was investigated and the methane permeability through two-layer (binary) compositions with different contents of plasticizers and fillers was simulated. The values of the methane permeability coefficient in LOGICBASE™/ECOBASE™ PVC membranes of different thicknesses and with different contents of plasticizer and filler were evaluated. The indicators of methane permeability of waterproofing PVC membranes of the presented brands obtained during the study using mathematical modeling can be considered as barrier materials in relation to the penetration of methane, i.e. they prevent its penetration.
