Abstract. The issues of cooperation between Russia and African countries in the field of territorial planning are comprehensively considered. The relevance of the study is due to the general growth of mutual political and economic contacts between the parties, but not yet in this area. A great potential for increasing cooperation in urban planning and geo-urban planning has been identified. To analyze the situation in territorial planning in African countries, the historical method is used, since modern systems have largely remained unchanged since colonial times. The priority tasks of Russia's spatial development at present are the development of the structure of the spatial organization of productive forces, rational and integrated use of natural resources and environmental protection, as well as the implementation of programs for housing construction, creating a comfortable living environment in cities and other settlements. It is concluded that the domestic concept of the basic framework of settlement and the strategy of spatial development of the country, geoinformation systems, regulatory legal support for urban development, including document contents for territorial planning and urban zoning, territory planning, are relevant for African countries, but their implementation will require adaptation and consideration of local specifics.
