    Absatrct. At present, the technological capabilities of design firms have changed significantly due to the development of design solutions created on the basis of the use of information technologies. BIM technology is one of the actively implemented approaches that makes it possible to combine various software products and tools. The article discusses the advertised and actual possibilities of computer-aided design of construction objects with the use of BIM technology. The unsolved problems of this technology related to the strength analysis and to the possibilities of studying the states of the structure that are remote in time from the design process, namely: repair, reconstruction, dismantling, are indicated. At the same time, the undoubted advantages of BIM technologies at the stages of creating space-planning solutions and their agreed upon by specialists of different profiles are noted.
