Abstract. This article investigates the history of the development of space-planning solutions for Syrian low-rise residential buildings in Kasab city. They differ not only in their original architectural solution uncharacteristic for the Syrian subtropical Mediterranean climate and mountainous terrain, but also the use of these houses by the Armenian Diaspora, and not by the Arab population. This article analyzes traditional and modern residential buildings in this region (basic forms, principles, and features of functional-planning zoning). The assessment of influence of traditions on the modern architecture of the Syrian low-rise residential houses is given. The issues of effective use of territories with a complex relief for the construction of houses in the region of Kasab of Syria are considered. The typology of residential houses, depending on the slope of the relief, is analyzed, examples on the similar territories of the Mediterranean region are presented. The typology includes three types of individual houses, and for each type of house main aspects (composite, planning, constructive) are defined. The influence of relief features on the formation of residential houses when using the new constructive system "bearing floor", which allows creating a high-quality architectural residential environment on the terrain, is taken into account.
Key words: traditional Syrian house, types of slopes of relief, effective use of the territory with a difficult terrain, construction in territories of Mediterranean region.
