  • Issues of Rock Foundations Strength
    Vostrov V. K., Zalyubovin A. Yu.
  • UDC 624.12
An established scheme of deformation and destruction of foundation is based on attainment of its third limiting state (generation of cracks of breaking or shear). Creation of the stable shear cracks in foundation is understood as a limiting state of stable bedrock base. If the foundations are of soft rock ground or semirock ground, the limiting state is understood as formation of cracks of breaking or shear under the assumption of plastic deformations of foundation when ratio of normal and tangential stresses over sliding surfaces is submitted to the Coulomb's strength criterion.
Keywords: bedrock strength, crack resistance, limiting state, shear cracks, cracks of breaking.

  • Loss of Stability is Exhaustion of Bearing Capacity of Rods Compressed Longitudinally
    Grudev I. D.
  • UDC 624.071.3
The core elements compressed longitudinally made of plastic and brittle materials are considered. It is considered that the plasticity limits in tension and compression are very close to each other but the plasticity limits in tension and compression of brittle materials are very different. A process of deformation at longitudinal compression is calculated in details and carefully. It is shown that the bearing capacity of plastic rods is determined by maximum value of compressing force, bearing capacity of most brittle rods is determined by strength limit in tension. In the first and the second cases the traditional term "stability loss" reflects an essence of the process very badly.
Keywords: bearing capacity of longitudinally compressed rods, plastic rods, brittle rods, stability loss.

    Goritsky V. M., Guseva I. A., Sotskov N. I., Kulemin A. M.
  • UDC 691.88:621.882.6
An analysis of the causes of destruction of imported high-strength bolts of 12.9 strength grade used for the construction of outrigger girders of the high-rise building complex Moscow-City has been made.
On the basis of metallographic and electron-fractographic analyses taking into account the data about mechanical properties of the bolts destructed it is determined that the heat treatment of bolts has been carried out with violation of a condition. A higher level of destruction between grains in the bolts' fractures makes it possible to conclude that the bolts heat treatment was carried out in the interval of irreversible temper brittleness.
